LILIACEAE FAMILY, LILIUM GENUS
Hardy lilies continue to enjoy popularity. There are many new and improved hybrids and varieties, which give more garden value, with less care.
LILIES ARE BULBS
Lily bulbs vary in size, shape, colour and general appearance. You can plant them in the spring or fall.
For simplicity the flowers of lilies are best divided into four classifications – trumpet, bowl, recurved, and erect upright facing. Find out about the different varieties HERE.
ABOUT THE LILY BEETLE
Sadly, in some parts of the country gardeners have all but given up on these beauties, because of a small, red beetle with an insatiable appetite for lily foliage. Biological control using natural lily leaf beetle predators shows the most promise for controlling the spread of this problem.
