Report on the ORLS Annual Show, 2017
The show was held in the RBG Atrium, July 15 & 16. There were 150 entries in the horticultural section, 164 stems in total considering the three stem classes. There was a good mixture of the various types of lilies. Named hybrids were mainly Asiatics, LA’s and OT’s. Approximately half the entries were seedlings, mostly Asiatics but a good selection of trumpets and OT’s also.
John Kepkiewicz won the President’s award for best stem with an excellent stem of a L. davidii hybrid.
The design section was very impressive as always. There were five full classes. The entries were admired by members and visitors and added much to the show. Elizabeth Matheson won Best in Show and the Judge’s Choice was awarded to Irina Cole. Thanks to Anne Clark-Stewart and Mary-Ann Vercammen, design co-chairs, for organizing this section so well, and to their registrar Marguerite Husband and to their class conveners. Thank you to all the design exhibitors. Your contribution to the show is greatly appreciated.
